The Scanner Settings Vault, the Exact Gap Scanner and CAN SLIM Screener Settings Top YouTube Traders Use

Every scan here is copied number for number from an educator's own screen, dated, and linked to the moment they show it. No averaging, no "inspired by." Copy a scan, rebuild it on the platform you already pay for, and run it for a week before you trust it.

How Do You Copy a Scan to Another Platform?

  1. STEP 01

Match the field, not the name

Gap, change from close, premarket volume, and day volume are different fields. Find the one your platform calls by the educator's meaning.

  2. STEP 02

    Keep scans separate

Save the small-cap and large-cap versions as two scans. Merging them blurs both.

  3. STEP 03

Run it side by side for a week

Relative volume is calculated differently by each vendor. Compare your list with the educator's picks before you trade from it.

Scanner Settings Questions

What are Ross Cameron's 5 pillars of stock selection?

Ross Cameron's five filters for small-cap momentum stocks: up at least 10% on the day, relative volume at least 5x the 50-day average, a price between $2 and $20, a float under 20 million shares, and news today as the catalyst.

He runs them in Day Trade Dash from about 7:00 a.m. ET. Market cap, sector, and short interest cutoffs are not public.

What is a gap scanner?

A gap scanner lists stocks trading well above or below the prior close before or at the open. Humbled Trader runs two: a small-cap gap scan (up 10% or more from the close, $1 and up, at least 20,000 premarket shares, market cap $1 billion or less) and a large-cap version that drops the gap to 3% and requires a $1 billion market cap. thinkorswim's Stock Hacker can run a basic gap scan for $0 if you are an eligible Schwab client.

What are the best Finviz screener settings for day trading?

Start from Ross Cameron's filters and pick the closest Finviz options: change up 10% or more, relative volume over 5, a float under 20 million shares, and a price range that covers $2 to $20. Finviz uses preset ranges, so the match is close, not exact. The free version is delayed, so premarket scanning needs Finviz Elite at $39.50 a month.

What is a CAN SLIM screener?

A screen built on IBD's CAN SLIM rules. Dr. Thomas Carr's Smart Money screen in MarketSurge filters for a price above $15, 50-day average volume above 500,000 shares, industry group and Accumulation/Distribution ratings of A, weekly volume up more than 10% versus the 10-week average, and a Composite Rating above 85. The IBD ratings exist only inside MarketSurge ($149.95 a month) and IBD's own products.

Why does the same scan give different results on different platforms?

Vendors define fields differently. Gap, change from close, premarket volume, and total-day volume are separate fields, and relative volume is calculated differently by each vendor. Keep each educator's scan as its own saved scan, check the field definitions on your platform, and compare the first week of results side by side.

See the full tool comparison on the premarket scanners page.
