What it does
TradingAgents copies the org chart of an investment firm. Four analyst agents study fundamentals, the chart, news sentiment and the economy. A bull agent and a bear agent then argue over what the analysts found.
A trader agent weighs the debate, and a risk manager has to approve before any idea becomes a signal. You choose which AI powers each seat, so a cheap model can read data while a smarter one makes the call.
Why traders star it
One AI prompt tends to agree with itself. Forcing two agents to argue, then making a third approve, is a smart answer to that problem, and it is easy to watch it work.
The catch
It researches. It does not trade on its own, and the project publishes no audited track record. One Hacker News reviewer who read the code found news being counted twice. Treat it as a sparring partner, not a fund manager.

What it trades
Plugs into
Can TradingAgents place live trades?
No. It produces trade proposals and the reasoning behind them. Placing orders means connecting your own broker code, such as Alpaca, and that part is on you.
Is TradingAgents expensive to run?
It calls an AI model many times per stock, so paid models add up. Running free
local models through Ollama keeps the bill at zero, at the cost of slower and weaker answers.
